The main event of the Premiere Dance Theatre 25th Anniversary celebration was the presentation of the profoundly moving production From the Horse’s Mouth conceived and mounted by New York dance artists Tina Croll and Jamie Cunningham.

Harbourfront collected a who’s who of 25 dancers covering both a range of ages and dance styles who had all appeared at the theatre over the years. Each dancer had four tasks to execute on stage. They told a personal story, performed two personal 16 count movement patterns, one standing in one spot, the other travelling through space, and ended by interacting and improvising with another dancer. Thus, four people were always on stage in a provocative fusion of words and movement.

For many of the dancers, it was probably the first time they had ever spoken on stage, and what they revealed was a richness of lives lived.

Premiere Dance Theatre 25th Anniversary continues until Saturday at the newly renamed Fleck Dance Theatre.
