In the new Spotlight Series, Second City is bringing in headline comics for just a couple of shows – and judging by the packed house, it’s working.

The headliner was American Judah Friedlander who’s a star on the Emmy-winning TV show 30 Rock. The opening act was talented Canadian Jon Dore who has his own show on the Comedy Network. Andrew Chapman was the host.

The laconic Friedlander calls his stand-up The World Champion, and his shtick is that he is the best at everything. Friedlander is a master of the quick retort and he is very, very funny. For example, in describing why he’s banned from professional hockey, he told the crowd that he skated so fast that the ice melted and he drowned both teams and the referees.

The droll Dore is very scatological, but amusing. Chapman’s sophomoric comedy laid an egg, but he was an energetic host.
